Benjamin Goodson

Benjamin Goodson is musical director of the award- winning Bath Camerata and assistant conductor of the Rundfunkchor Berlin. He regularly prepares choirs for the world’s great orchestras and conductors, including the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann, Ivàn Fischer, Vladimir Jarowski, Robin Ticciati, and others. This year he makes his debut with the Netherlands Radio Choir and the MDR Chor Leipzig.

Benjamin is committed to exploring new avenues of choral performance. He is Chorus Director at Dorset Opera Festival, has staged Bach’s Matthew Passion with Tom Guthrie, and performed as co-conductor in Rundfunkchor Berlin’s Human Requiem. In the current season he assisted in developing Robert Wilson’s ground-breaking staging of the Bach Motets that premiered to critical acclaim in Berlin’s Pierre Boulez Saal.

Born in Hertfordshire, Benjamin studied music at Hertford College, Oxford, where he was awarded the University’s top conducting prize. He studied conducting with Sir Colin Davis, Paul Spicer, Peter Stark and Ulrich Windfuhr. Three years after graduating, Benjamin was appointed Director of Music at Somerville College, becoming the University of Oxford’s youngest Director of Music.
