Robert Brooks
Musical Director
Robert Brooks is a conductor, arranger, composer and baritone based in London. As well as his work with Bath Camerata, he is the musical director of Cambridge Chorale, ITV Voices and Libricini, and is a guest conductor for the National Youth Choir and London Youth Choirs.
Robert grew up in the Barbican, where he attended Junior Guildhall, before becoming a chorister at New College, Oxford. He began conducting at the University of Manchester, where he studied with Matthew Hamilton and Justin Doyle, directed the chamber choir Ad Solem, and was a member of Genesis Sixteen.
He went on to conduct the University of Edinburgh Chamber Choir, the Preston Cecilian Choral Society and the Manchester Singers, and completed fellowships with the Leeds Festival Chorus and the National Youth Choir. He has studied orchestral conducting with John Traill and Sian Edwards, and his portfolio includes work with the University of Warwick Symphony Orchestra, Nottingham Youth Orchestra, the Academy of St Mary le Bow, the British Sinfonietta, and Eboracum Baroque.
Robert enjoys a growing reputation for the inventiveness and quality of his choral arranging, and both his compositions and arrangements have been premiered and recorded by the National Youth Choir, the Exon Singers, Icosa Chamber Choir, the King’s Men and many others.
Robert was appointed Musical Director of Bath Camerata in October 2024
